Summer is officially here and with summer comes and parties and events. Today I’m going to show you how to make a cheap summer backdrop for taking photos, food displays or even for decor in the home (like mine over my mantel) — using cocktail umbrellas.

I first thought of this cocktail umbrella backdrop when I saw this cute wreath on Pinterest by Camilla Fabbri of Family Chic.
My brain began to think of ways I could use the cocktail umbrellas for a fun summer backdrop/decor over my mantel.
Supplies you will need:
Cocktail umbrellas: I bought my umbrellas on Amazon because they are the cheapest for the amount required. The quality is also quite good, only ten umbrellas wouldn’t open. When I went to check the Dollar Tree, you can purchase five umbrellas for $1.00, that’s .20 per umbrella. Amazon sells 144 for $8.47. That’s .05 per umbrella.
Monofilament: Basically, fishing line. I do like this monofilament because of how thin it is.
Tape: Plain old scotch tape. Preferably mate tape.
Scissors: Any old scissors will do!

It’s just that simple to make! Keep in mind that if you are going to be hanging these outdoors that they are very lightweight and will get tangled up easily.
If anyone is interested in the little wood pineapples, I bought them from factorydirectcrafts.com Each pineapple is $0.99.
