Happy new year to all of my readers. I sincerely wish you all a happy, hopeful, healthy, understanding, and loving new year. Now, I’ve made something that is too darn cute! DIY mini portable essential oil diffusers.
This last Christmas, I wanted to make my family a little gift that they could take with them in their daily lives that would help them and make them happy. I racked my brain for a few days and came up with this BRILLANT idea. The best part is all you need are a few cheap things to make them.

How to make mini essential oil diffusers?
The idea for these started with a bridesmaid proposal box. You know, those trendy boxes filled with goodies for a bride to “propose” the concept of the person being in their wedding.
I wanted to make something personal and useful for my family members and decided to take components of these boxes and make them myself.
The best part about these diffusers is that they are ultra-portable and only take three things to make them.
Products to make diffusers:
Ceramic pie weights: You can find these pie weights in different shapes and sizes. You need to make sure that they are not glazed in any way, or they will not absorb the oil.
A metal or glass container to put the pie weights in: I had some tins on hand from another project that I used, but you can find tins at Michales, Dollar Tree, and online for cheap.
Essential oil: I made two blends for my family; one was creamsicle and the other was vanilla lavender.
Optional mini oil dropper: I made these as gifts, so I put my oils in a mini dropper. I can’t stand how stinking cute these are!!
How do make you your mini diffuser?
All you have to do is put your ceramic beads into the dish and drop some oil directly on the ceramic balls. Just a few drops of oil will make your space smell amazing for almost a week. Are you tired of the smell? Just put the lid on.
If you decide to add the mini dropper, it will fit 66 drops of oil. For the creamsicle, I mixed 30 drops of orange, 20 drops of vanilla, five drops of bergamot, and five drops of lemon oil. For the lavender vanilla, I mixed 40 drops of lavender and 20 vanilla.
Using essential oils is much healthier for you and everyone around you. You will not be able to re-use the pie weights again for baking. Sorry, I know that it is a no-brainer, but I thought I would make sure to say it. Also, the pie weights are small enough for little mouths to swallow, so you might not want to leave these in places where little ones have access to them!
Here are other things to make with the essential oils that you buy. I LIVE by all of these items. I use the granite cleaner exclusively in my kitchen and bathroom. And the poo-pourri is the best. Just click on the pic you like, and it will take you to the post.

LOL! I saw some handmade ceramic diffusers on ETSY and I had one of my “bright ideas.” These turned out amazing! If you made the other diffuse you can just use what you have to make these little portable guys! Happy new year cousin.

Hi Melissa!
I’m looking to make my own car freshener and was wondering if the scent comes through the tin and if not, can I glue the pie weight on a vent Clip? Thank you in advance!

Hi Raisa,
Sorry for not responding to your comment for a few days! Yes, you could easily make this into a car air freshener. I would modify the lid by using a hammer and nail or a drill with a metal drill bit and making holes in the lid. It just so happens that I am launching another Etsy shop that is for car air freshener’s in about 2 weeks. If you subscribe to my blog you will one of the first to know when I launch and will have access to exclusive Etsy coupon codes for my shops. I would love to see if you make this and modify it. Send me some pictures and I’ll add them to my post.

thoughtful of you to have made these for your family members. I love that they are ultra-portable and easy to make with just a few affordable items. The mini ceramic pie weights are a great idea for absorbing the essential oils and making any space smell amazing for almost a week.
I appreciate that you have also included the recipe for two essential oil blends that you made – creamsicle and vanilla lavender. It’s always great to have different options to choose from. Additionally, thank you for mentioning the safety precautions about not reusing the pie weights for baking and keeping them away from little ones.
I’ll definitely try making these diffusers myself and check out the other things I can make with the essential oils that I buy.
