Don’t try to hide it, we all have one! A drawer somewhere in our house that full of crap stuff. The JUNK drawer. This catch-all can be a lifesaver if it is stocked with bits and bobs that you don’t necessarily use on a daily.
Chalked full of miscellaneous items that range anywhere from knobs to thumbtacks and beyond. I’ve polled my family and friend “Gurus” and have come up with some items that will serve you well!
THE JUNK!
Tape: Multiple types of tape are a necessity in the good old junk drawer. Try having at least one roll of blue painters tape, scotch tape, double sided tape and duct tape.
Sharp things: A must for any junk drawer is a good pair of utility shears, tweezers, and a box cutter.
Glue: There are a couple types of glue that every self-respecting homeowner MUST have! I bet you’re thinking I’m going to say super glue? Nope! One of the best and most versatile glues to have is jewelry glue. It adheres to so many surfaces and holds!!! Along with jewelry glue, you should have wood glue, industrial glue and something to remove it just in case, like goo gone and a scraper.
Tools: A junk drawer is not a toolbox! Only a few tools should find their home there. Try to find good multi-tools that can perform multiple jobs and doesn’t take up a ton of space. Try a multi-tip screwdriver, measuring tape and a small hammer.
All things fasteners: How many times do you need a rubber band and can’t find one? AHHH, so many! I think that fasteners of all types are an overlooked necessities homeowners forget to have on hand. Every house needs some sort of rubber/silicone bands, thumbtacks, zip ties, paper clips, binder clips and assorted nails and screws.
Ink and lead: Looking for a pen when you need one ASAP is so frustrating. Only to find one that is dried up and not functional. Keep a couple pens and pencils in your junk drawer that is long lasting along with a good old-fashioned pencil sharpener.
Clothing hacks: Ever try to leave the house looking like you’re wearing a coat because the furry family members have shed everywhere? I always have a lint remover, stain removing stick and chalk on hand in my junk drawer.
Fire and light: A junk drawer is not complete without some light sources. I always keep a small flashlight, long lighter and matches. You never know when the lights will go out.
Quick furniture and wood fixes: Everybody dings and gouges. In our house, we have 7 different shades of flooring and furniture. Having a quick fix to cover the oopsies that happen from living in a house.
