I’ve meant to post this tutorial for over a year! My beautiful oldest niece turned 18 last year and to celebrate her love of geeky things I crafted a simple DIY Totoro pinanta for her. You can make this little guy as well with a few supplies and a little imagination.

Supplies you will need are:
Streamers: I used both white and grey streamers. You can purchase them at many different places. I would check the dollar store first. The amount you will need will depend on the size of the pinata you are making. I need one roll of white and one roll of grey for mine.
Glue stick: Just your standard glue stick.
Double-sided tape: Any double-sided tape will work.
Card stock: For this Totoro pinata, you will need white, black, and green card stock.
Scissors: A good pair of scissors will do.
Cardboard: I used both regular brown cardboard and thin cardboard from a gift box. Most people like using the cardboard from cereal boxes but I like my main body pieces to be a little thicker.
Tape: Masking tape or even washi tape will do. This is to connect all the sides of the pinata so it doesn’t have to be anything fancy.
Thin wire: This is optional. I used this to make the ears posable. You can make the ears without the wire, but it won’t look as cute!
Fiberfill: If you want a cute puffy tummy, then you need some soft filling. I bet you could even get away with using cotton balls.
