I’ve meant to post this tutorial for over a year! My beautiful oldest niece turned 18 last year and to celebrate her love of geeky things I crafted a simple DIY Totoro pinanta for her. You can make this little guy as well with a few supplies and a little imagination.

The Great LadyBug Challenge

Recently I was contacted by a fellow blogger Sophie Marshall of smarshc.com to participate in the Great LadyBug Challenge which was started and inspired by Our little red house.

I am so grateful to be asked to participate. But I have a huge secret. I hate ladybugs. One of my girlfriends loves them, and ladybugs make me think of her so in honor of her I am going to kill this challenge (pun intended.)

This is a challenge to create a ladybug in any medium and form of your choosing. SO, I wanted to make something cheap and unique that really anyone could make at home.

TISSUE PAPER COVERED LANTERNS – 2 WAYS

Do you remember in kindergarten the cool art projects with the little tissue paper squares that we wrapped around the end of a pencil? If not maybe go smell some Play-Doh to ignite your memory. Got it? Okay, now imaging paper lanterns covered in tissue paper twists. It’s such a cheap, easy and awesome craft. They are a super versatile craft for all occasions.

I am not going to lie, the fluffy lanterns are a bit time-consuming. Perfect for a rainy afternoon. I made 6 of them and it took me about 4 hours from cutting the tissue paper to placing the final tissue square.
