Recently I was contacted by a fellow blogger Sophie Marshall of smarshc.com to participate in the Great LadyBug Challenge which was started and inspired by Our little red house.
I am so grateful to be asked to participate. But I have a huge secret. I hate ladybugs. One of my girlfriends loves them, and ladybugs make me think of her so in honor of her I am going to kill this challenge (pun intended.)
This is a challenge to create a ladybug in any medium and form of your choosing. SO, I wanted to make something cheap and unique that really anyone could make at home.
This post contains affiliate links. If you click on one and make a purchase Sincerely Saturday gets a TINY portion at no additional cost you. This helps me provide you with all this fun information. Please see my Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for any questions.
Once again I would like to thank Sophie Marshall for nominating me to participate. Go check out her blog!
Here are the rules:
- Thank the person/s who tagged you and create a link to their blog.
- Use “THE GREAT LADYBUG CHALLENGE!!!” logo banner on your post and copy and paste the rules on your post.
- Add a picture of your ladybug creation/s and maybe a how-to of how you did it and the supplies used.
- Create a link to Our Little Red House’s blog, so people can be inspired by her beautiful ladybugs! And check out her blog, she makes really neat projects!
- Tag 1 – 5 people that you think would be interested in making ladybugs and create links to their blogs.
- Notify your tagged people that you’ve tagged them through social media or in the comments on their blogs.
- This is a wide open ladybug making exercise! You can make them however way you want, it’s not limited to sewing them. Use whatever is your favorite crafting materials to make them. And you can even write poems or stories about ladybugs or paint pictures of them. Or make cards featuring ladybugs. Or you could even make ladybug cupcakes or cookies! Use whatever creative medium you are comfortable with!
- There is no time limit! Ladybug making should be relaxing, not stressful!
- Even if you weren’t tagged, feel free to participate in making ladybugs! Tag others and create links to their blogs so people can follow the links to see the ladybugs!
So without further ado here is my Shrinky Dinks Ladybug bookmark.
How to make your Ladybug bookmark.
Supplies you will need are:
Shrinky DInks: I like the Rough and Ready kind but the white works well. If you choose to use the white, you will need to sand one side with fine sandpaper.
Scissors: I prefer smaller size scissors when cutting the Shrinky Dinks because it is so brittle.
Colored pencils and fine tipped sharpie: I like to use both of these as the coloring mediums. Just remember that both will look much darker when baked.
Single hole punch: I suppose you could find something around the house to make a hole, but this is the fastest way to make a hole.
Parchment paper or silicon mat: I like to have a clean baking sheet that I can immediately remove from the toaster oven once the Shrinky Dinks are finished baking.
Toaster Oven: Shrinky Dinks bake better inside of a toaster oven.
Bakers Twine: I used red and white bakers twine, but I would have used plain black if I had it on hand.
Mod Podge: For the rounded ladybug and strawberry plant I used regular Mod Podge but, if you make flat ladybugs I recommend using the Mod Podge dimensional magic!
Small round object: For my ladybugs, I used a round wooden bead to shape them after removing them from the oven. I also tested using the cap of a sharpie, and that worked well too.
Something fluffy: You will need some sort of fluffy or squishy surface to shape your ladybugs once you remove them from the oven. I used a piece of foam I had from unboxing my new phone case. I think a towel would also work instead of foam.
Free ladybug bookmark template: That’s right ladies and gentlemen, I made a free template for you to use to make these little guys. WOOT WOOT!
I made an easy to follow video tutorial!
The fellow bloggers that I am going to include in this challenge are:
For those I nominated, there is NO time limit on this challenge. If you are not interested, that’s okay too. Take your time and come up with something awesome!

Love your little shrinky ladybug, Melissa. I think they’re the cutest little bugs out there and I don’t believe I’ve ever met someone who doesn’t like them. My Mom always used to tell us that when a ladybug lands on your hand that the fairies sent them to bring us luck 😀 So I do hope that this little one brings you lots of luck and good fortune.
P.S. Thank you so much for including me in the challenge. I think I’ll take you up on that
