Living here in the Pacific Northwest is a privilege and best-kept secret. Yes, it rains sometimes, but not as often as we’d like you to think. Right now in your house, you have at least one thing from a company that calls this beautiful part of the country home. Don’t believe me, well I’m going to tell you about all things Pacific Northwest commerce.
ALL THINGS PACIFIC NORTHWEST
This post may contain affiliate links. I do not promote products or services that I don’t personally use. All opinions are 100% my own.
ADIDAS: Yes my personal favorite shoe brand, Adidas. This brand is close to my heart for a few reasons, mainly because I spent many summers in Deutschland (Germany) very close to the headquarters. Like Nike, Adidas has a very large presence here in Portland and offers jobs to a couple thousand of its residents.
COLUMBIA SPORTSWEAR: We get our fair share of inclement weather here in the Pacific Northwest which requires a certain kind of clothing. No, we are not all hipsters or Lumberjacks. Columbia sports ware offers thick fluffy fleece jackets that are a mainstay with all of us PNW (Pacific Northwest) residents. Due to the growth of the company they now own many other brands such as Sorel and Mountain Hardware (Monkey man fleece is the bee’s knees!)
REI: The trend of the PNW fashion offers is obviously geared toward an outdoor lifestyle. REI headquarters is in Seattle, Wa. Their flagship store is super fun to visit. Take a bike out on their test track.
PENDLETON: Established in 1863, this enduring American style is here to stay! Super cozy wool fabrics made to last and keep you warm and dry is the harshest conditions. Although most of the items from Pendleton are not cheap they are heirloom quality.
NORDSTROM: More power to you if you can find the money to shop at Nordstroms. Its flagship store is located in downtown Seattle.
SALVATION ARMY: What a great service that the Salvation Army provides. Donating to them instead of Goodwill is always a priority.
ZULILY: I. LOVE. ZULILY! Being a plus size lady doesn’t always afford me much choice in clothing. Not with my friends at Zulily. Every day is something different, so shopping is exciting and the deals are amaze-balls!
JONES SODA: Can someone say turkey flavored soda. Yuk! They make it all at Jones Soda. From wild and wacky flavors to the yummy bubblegum flavor there’s a little something for everyone.
TILLAMOOK DAIRY PRODUCTS: Squeaky cheese is my jam! Don’t let California fool you, we have the happiest cows here in Oregon. Tillamook has the creamiest cheese, yogurt, and ice-cream. Tillamook Pronounce Till-ah-mook like a book.
THE BIGGIES
STARBUCKS: It just may be possible that you didn’t know where Starbucks is from? Take a trip to Pikes Place Market to see the original store. Here in the PNW, we have one on every street corner.
INTEL: Fast computers are almost always loaded with one from Intel. Even the MacBooks are using Intel’s chips to run their systems.
BOEING: If you’ve flown, then you’ve probably used a Boeing plane. Personally, we have many family members in the Seattle area that work for this aviation giant.
NIKE: There’s a good chance that on your feet right now lays that world-famous swoosh? Huh! Nike’s founder is from Oregon and has his headquarters in Beaverton, OR. We all love Nike here in Portland because they employ so many in and around the city and donate a TON to local charities.
MICROSOFT: A true global giant! Microsoft has entered almost every household that has electricity. If you don’t own it you’ve used it at work and school. A true innovator that has molded the landscape of the PNW. Don’t forget about their awesome gaming platform the Xbox!
COSTCO: WHAT? I’m going to bet that this blows people minds from the PNW. Costco’s headquarters is located just outside Seattle. Known for giant-sized offering and being one of the best employers to work for keeps them a top seller above Walmart.
AMAZON: I almost forget what it was like before this colossus entered our lives. Shopping for almost everything in life can be done through the Amazon platform. Amazon is forever offering new and innovative services like a subscription diaper service to food delivery and in the very near future, they will be supplying your local dental office with their tools of the trade.
Living here in the PNW is a blessing. We have the mountains, desert, ocean and rainforest all within short driven distance. Maybe that’s why some of the worlds most iconic brands make their home here.
I hope you enjoyed this week’s Wish List Wednesday. Look out for my next one all about industrial design!
